Personality:

x vampire

Damon is first and foremost a vampire, a fact that he's seemingly embraced with all its horrors. He compels people, feeds on them and kills with little regard. These are all things he seems to berate his brother Stefan for in the first Season and whether this is some ploy to try to get Stefan to forgive himself for all the terrible things he's done himself or just who Damon is, he keeps that fact close to his heart.

x emotional

Being a vampire means all the things he felt as a human have been amplified. All the emotions he used to feel and behaviour he had before being turned only became amplified. Meaning Damon is kind of a hot mess when it comes to emotions. He floats from extreme to extreme. If he dislikes someone he despises them. If he loves someone, he'll raze the Earth for them. He's the emotional equivalent of a shaken up can of Pepsi.

x spiteful

One of Damon's main character traits is his spitefulness. If he feels he's been done wrong, he'll be sure to return the favour tenfold, no matter how long it takes. He actually murders every member of a family that experimented and tortured him ages ago, only to leave one alive and let them flourish again only to repeat the act when he thinks they're happy enough. If he's been wronged it's hard to get his trust back and it's equally as hard to keep him from plotting whoever's demise or suffering.

x sense of humour

Damon has a sharp wit and a pretty good sense of humour, whether it's to make other people laugh or himself, he can usually always crack a joke. Even in the darkest situations he can raise a vocal middle finger at whatever is going on and joke or mock it.

x dedicated

Damon is dedicated to his causes, to a fault even. He waited over 140 years to try to free Katherine, the woman he was in love with. He's dedicated himself to "ruining" Stefan's life, which is really more of an excuse to follow his baby bro around. Whether the cause is good or bad, Damon dedicates himself to whatever he sets his mind to, and that makes him a dangerous enemy and a great ally.

x charming

Damon is dangerously charming. He's got that bad boy charm down pat, but he can also really shape up to be someone to take home and meet mom. He oozes charm and had years to perfect it. He's also an incredible actor and if he wants to convince someone to like him, he's rather good at that too.

x calculating

Another one of Damon's huge traits is how calculating he is, he seems to always try to think things out. While he's not super ridiculously calculating, he is above average and can hatch up some pretty devious plans. Like feeding Elena blood and threatening to kill her if Stefan didn't back off the Bennett Grimoire, that way Stefan couldn't meddle because he had to spend the entire time protecting Elena.

x protective

Something that seemed to be greatly boosted by being turned into a vampire is how protective Damon is of people he cares about. Whether it's friends, Stefan, Elena, he's the type of person that will sacrifice himself for them or murder as many people as it takes to keep them safe or get them back. He followed Stefan around for ages under the guise of terrorising him, and while he did a little, he also protected him from anyone who tried to hurt him.

x violent

This goes hand in hand with being a vampire but Damon is violent and doesn't hesitate to be either. He embraces violence like he was born for it, despite turning his back on the war he was in when he was still human. He doesn't bat a lash at murdering, tearing into or generally hurting people and often uses such things to prove a point.

x deep down he's good

Despite his horrific behaviour, Damon is good deep down. He protects those he loves, he helps people even when he doesn't always need to, he befriends people and generally isn't an 'evil' creature. When he compels people he tries to leave them to it when he can. He seems to try to help people in awfully misguided ways, like turning Matt's little sister into a vampire in an attempt to actually give her life meaning. He even tries to help her learn to be a vampire, despite it not ending well.

x misses being human

Deep, deep down, Damon misses being human. It's not something he'd say out loud, or even really allow himself to dwell on, because if he convinces himself he's having fun as a vampire it has to be true, right? He misses living normally, having a normal love, the possibility of a family. He misses all of it, which is one of the main reasons he surrounds himself with humans and humanity. He met Elena first, before his brother, and compelled her to forget but told her that she'd get an ever consuming and great love and get everything she wanted in life.

Abilities/Skills:

Super Strength, Healing, Agility and Senses
Vampire Blood - Heals humans if they ingest it, however if they die with vampire blood in their system they will transition into a vampire after feeding on human blood.
Dream Walking/Manipulation - Can manipulate dreams of others, vampires and humans alike.
On/Off Switch - Can turn emotions off.
Compulsion - Basically mind control that can do pretty much anything to a human's mind, but if they've ingested or are wearing vervain a vampire cannot compel someone nor can a vampire compel another vampire. He's also been seen to compel ravens.
Immortality - Can't die from natural causes and doesn't age.
Fangs - Can grow fangs to feed.
Sire Bond - Sometimes vampires can turn someone who feels so grateful they are sire bonded to them, therefore they do anything the sire asks of them.
Daylight Ring - He has a magical ring attuned to him that allows him to walk in the sunlight.
